Match Report: Ratho Athletic AFC 5 - 0 Tollcross Thistle

Premiership Dominance as Ratho Climb the Table

Ratho Athletic put in a blistering performance on Saturday afternoon, dismantling Tollcross Thistle 5-0 in a huge Premiership clash. The result sees Ratho leap above Tollcross in the table with a game in hand and sends a clear message to the rest of the league.

It didn’t take long for Ratho to set the tone. Just 10 minutes in, Adam Forrest opened the scoring, rising highest to meet a corner and nodding home to give the hosts an early lead.

The second came soon after, and it was a moment of individual brilliance from Scott Henney. The ball was worked wide to the winger, who beat his man before firing a right-footed strike in off the inside of the post.

Half-time: Ratho 2, Tollcross 0

The second half was all Ratho again. The third goal came from a long ball over the top, which Mikey latched onto. His touch took him wide, and though his shot cannoned off the bar, Scott Hay was on hand to drive the rebound into the bottom corner.

Tollcross’s day went from bad to worse as they were reduced to 10 men following a second yellow card for one of their players.

Ratho took full advantage. A stunning 50-yard pass from Adam Forrest found Henney in behind, and he made no mistake, lobbing the keeper first time to make it 4-0 with his second of the game.

The fifth and final goal came after Henney’s clever hold-up play saw him dragged down in the box. Chrissy stepped up and coolly dispatched the penalty to round off a perfect afternoon for the home side.

It was as dominant a performance as you’ll see against a strong Tollcross team. Every player in a Ratho shirt left everything on the pitch and thoroughly deserved the result.

Manager David Whelan was full of praise after the match:

“Every single boy stuck to the game plan, battled for each other, and played some fantastic football. The shape was fantastic and we were unplayable on the day. Man of the match could have gone to six or seven boys, with the full squad and committee doing their part.”

A statement win and a performance to remember from Ratho Athletic.
