Match Report: Edinburgh Uni 2-4 Ratho Athletic

Ratho Athletic claimed their first domestic victory of the LEAFA Premiership season with a commanding performance against Edinburgh Uni, securing a 4-2 win in challenging conditions.

The team started brightly, immediately putting the home side under pressure. Dean Crane opened the scoring early on, finishing from close range to give Ratho the lead. The momentum stayed with the visitors as Liam Gallacher bagged a quick-fire double, propelling Ratho into a dominant 3-0 lead.

As the first half wore on, Edinburgh Uni fought back and capitalized on a free kick in a dangerous area, reducing the deficit to 3-1 just before the break. Despite playing against gusty winds, Ratho ended the half on a high, showing resilience and control.

The second half began much like the first, with Ratho on the front foot. Kevin Hamilton capped a brilliant individual performance by heading home to restore the three-goal advantage at 4-1, adding to his two assists in a standout display.

A series of substitutions midway through the half disrupted the flow of the game slightly, and Edinburgh Uni managed to grab a late consolation goal to make it 4-2. Despite this, Ratho continued to create chances, but the Uni goalkeeper pulled off several excellent saves to keep the scoreline respectable.

This vital win not only lifts Ratho off the bottom of the table but also serves as a huge confidence boost for the team. The lads put in a fantastic performance, showcasing some excellent phases of play in testing conditions.

The team now looks ahead to their final match of the year against Clermiston next Saturday, with spirits high after both the win and their Christmas night out!
